DEVELOPED FOR PARENTS, BY PARENTS WITH YOU IN MIND

Reading Routes is a Caretaker's At-Home Guide to Successful Literacy Instruction. Reading Routes is a curriculum developed by parents for parents with you in mind! This curriculum provides reading strategies and techniques that are centered around your learner, and provides a clear roadmap to help you assist them with building their reading skills. This curriculum benefits learners across their lifespan!

During this collaborative initiative between Jump At The Sun and Reading Routes, we will pilot culturally affirming early childhood literacy programming, engage community in community-led research on how to best engage Black families in early childhood literacy through Forsyth Family Power’s parent researchers, and build to a literacy event at the Literacy Corner at the Juneteenth community event on June 17, 2023.

We're Leveraging the Strength and Resources of 3 Coalitions

Action4Equity’s literacy platform, Jump At The Sun, launched in 2020 with the mission of providing culturally affirming books, curriculum, and training to educators to infuse historically appropriate and multicultural scope of history in literacy. Since the coalition formed, the Book Drive initiative has continuously put culturally affirming books and educator-developed curriculums in our local schools and provided community conversations on representative education and the need for multicultural education for all students.

Literacy Action Network through Forsyth Family Power. Within the Whole Child education framework and focusing on cradle-to-career education.

Jump At The Sun and Reading Routes collaboration provides spaces and curriculum specifically designed for Black families to be culturally affirming and relative.

Jump At The Sun united numerous organizations, institutions, and individuals under the banner of culturally affirming literacy; this coalition's collective impact work is now housed within The Forsyth Promise.

The collaboration of these organizations on this campaign leverages the strengths and resources of each:

1.

Reading Routes

Culturally Affirming Family Engagement and Literacy

2.

Jump At The Sun

Culturally Relative Literacy and Pedagogy

3.

Forsyth Family Power

Forsyth Promise Literacy Action Network Coalition

WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

Our son began as a struggling reader. He has had a reading IEP since the 2nd grade. After working with Shatoria, our family engaging in Reading Routes and the training, he is now in the top 10% of his class!
